(A photograph of me & my family & our partners in Paris - excluding my father who's taking the photo - I have 2 sisters & 1 brother. I am the youngest)
I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it difficult & embarrassing writing an 'About Me' section? Do you include personal things? Is it meant to be about business? Who can describe themselves in a few sentences? & really, who gives a shit? My current about me is a silly thing that I wrote almost 2 years ago when I was setting up a blog for no particular reason. Now it is focused on my clothing label, but I still like to include little snippets from things I like & my daily life - that's sort of the point in blogging, isn't it? I went to edit it a month or so ago but I couldn't think of anything to write. So I uploaded a few new pictures & let it be. Sometimes I'm not the best with words (can't you tell... waffle waffle waffle...)
What do you think is important to include in an info section? Personally, I like some sort of photo. I like to know who's behind the blog, but I also like some basic facts. You can normally tell if you like a blog from the posts & it's more just a section where people can go for some quick info, & to be a bit nosy to be honest. I'm a pretty shy person & often people think I am rude or hate them when I first meet them. I'm also really not into the whole very very personal blogging. I have a close family & friends & I am pretty picky about who I tell things to. Not that I have any problems with anyone else' ideas on what you should & shouldn't share. Each to their own :)
I get asked questions every now & then about where I learnt to sew, when I decided to start up my little business & things like that & I think they would be interesting to include in an about me section. I also want to explain the ethics behind my clothing label without sounding preachy or just plain boring. What sort of things do you like to know? I would love some help so I can edit mine accordingly. & I'm not talking about telling you my life story, because to be honest, it wouldn't be too interesting, ha!

I think writing about yourself is always hard, especially when there's the expectation that it should encapsulate everything about you and remain for posterity! Impossible. I like your idea of giving a bit of background to your business, and a few random facts. I can't advise, but can comiserate with you on it being a genuinely difficult task. Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteI know I think it's keeping it short & simple as well as informative? Hah, Thanks for the input :)
DeleteInteresting post, i like the questions that you asked in this post, because for me writing 'about me' post is not that easy too :(

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it a bit tricky!
DeleteI've been trying to re-write my 'about me' for nearly a month now and nothing seems to sound right, I can't seem to find the right words to sum myself up in a paragraph or so. It's weird because like you, my current 'about me' was written ages ago and I must have spent a whole of 5 minutes on it not really giving it a second thought...but the more I think about it, when I look on someone else's blog, their 'about me' page is the first thing I look on. Maybe I should put in a bit more effort!? Pictures are a must though, I love seeing what the writer looks like :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the same! I go straight to someone's about me but I never think anyone would ever look at mine. Perhaps there is no magic formula for writing one, & everyone is just as awkward as each other... I hope so. :)
DeleteHi Isabel,
ReplyDeleteI'm a brand new reader (came here via Ladybird Likes and a subsequent visit to your glorious Etsy shop). When I came to your blog I went straight to your About Me section, and I enjoyed it - you cracked me up! You have a great sense of humour, and a really honest writing style which is really easy to relate to.
I'd like to know how/why you started your business, and your creative process. I'm planning to get my own little crafty business off the ground this year, and I find it really helpful to hear stories from people like yourself who are living the dream - you're more inspiring than you realise.
I'm looking forward to being able to afford that gorgeous blue skater skirt and polka dot top in your shop (they just hit the top of my wish list!), and also to reading more on this blog. Cheers! xo
Hi Lou! Thank you so much, I am so glad you like my shop. I re-read my old about me & now I can't even decide whether to change it, oh dear. I will include more about my business & all that jazz as I know that's what I love to read about on others blogs. Very happy to have you as a new reader :)
DeleteI just love your sense of fashion, a great mix of vintage turned modern. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes I definitely feel the same way. I wrote my About Me section a few years ago and never re-read it because it makes me feel so awkward... probably not the best approach:) But I like yours. You seem very approachable and friendly- in fact, this is the first blog post I've ever commented in! And it's well rounded: lighthearted and funny but still including basic info, and both explains your work and excited to discover the work of others. Maybe you could include a studio/creation process shot along with your other pics? I always love to see studio set-ups.
